Google Toolbar says Non Compatible Browser ? No Problem.

Many of you may use Distros which ship a custom build of firefox. For example, ArchLinux has an i686 optimised version of firefox which is named Gran Paradiso to avoid copyright issues with Mozilla Corp. who hold trademark rights to the name. Now, the problem is that these browsers don’t properly identify them when a site checks for Mozilla Firefox. Google is an example, and due to this I am not able to install Google Toolbar. I finally found a solution. Here it is for you :-)

Tutorial: Remove Recently Used Items List in Linux Apps

Are you one of those guys who is pissed off because many applications log things you don’t want them to log ? Then continue reading. I am going to tell you how you can disable history of most apps except firefox, because, luckily, they store their information in the SAME place. I am using the easier way, using GUI, so that some of you newer users won’t have difficulties. Read the rest of this entry »

Life on the cutting edge – ArchLinux

After a few months of using it, I finally feel I am confident enough to write a piece about one of the best, and I MEAN best, linux distros ever, archlinux. This distro is rather unique, and several things in it make it the ideal distro for the intermediate level linux user. The following is in no way a review or tutorial about arch, THAT part would need another post. Currently, I am focusing on its importance as a distro for the intermediate linux user.

Why I still use Windows

By now, looking at my posts under the linux tag, most of you must have guessed that I am a 1337 linux user. And yes I am. I use linux almost exclusively, whatever be the purpose. From playing games to work, from viewing multimedia to browsing the internet, from office work to multimedia studio applications, from desktop publishing to web designing, from programing to customising, I am always satisfied and I can never have enough of this wonderful system, GNU/Linux.

Despite all this, I still need to keep windows. There are a variety of reasons, none of them my fault, due to which I still need to keep an inferior, insecure, featureless platform with me all the time, and though its rarely booted into, windows is still an important software I need to install…

The Swordsman who fights with a Paper Sword – Me and My PC

Introduction

I think it will be safe for me to get slightly personal in this little post of mine. Here I am going to describe how my life, as a geek and power user, goes on everyday with this computer of mine, which means anything but power. All this because I was never really a geek once, I was just a semi-backward guy who turned geek out of his own actions.

Debian: Sidux Forever

Introduction:

Before starting this post, let me give you a flashback of my current situation so that the lazier among my readers here can get a gist of the story without any clicks. Ubuntu Linux was my first Distro, but its most recent version was just too hot for my computer to handle. It was a disaster on my PC. Then I tried out Debian Lenny. It would have been good before, but now was the time its development period was about to end. And it was a bit too vague in many respects. So I had to say goodbye to it too.

You have seen two stages of my review of Debian Sidux GNU/Linux, about my installation of Sidux and my experiences with its first update. After a round of updates and installing software, and also customising, I can now consider Sidux to be almost family to me. Let me enter my third (and hopefully last) stage of my sidux review – the experience of Sidux now that everything has settled down(sort of).

Sidux – impressions and updating experience

Debian: Updating Sidux – Kick My Ass if I ever choose tw.debian.org again

You remember my previous post about my Sidux install, right ? Well, a good lot has happened since then.

I installed sidux thrice, yes THRICE, after that. All that for a simple net connection/router problem. And because I wanted ReiserFS, the filesystem of my root partition, to be replaced with ext3 again. Anyway, I had lots left to read in Linux For You, and the internet was still there, so I could amuse myself with something while sidux installed. Luckily, I have a seperate /home partition. This ensured that I don’t have to recustomise Sidux all over again. Anyway, once all my trouble seemed over, new trouble started…

Debian: The Sidux Install

I have finally replaced Debian “Lenny” (Testing) with Debian “Sid” (Unstable) based Sidux, due to the reasons mentioned here. Anyway, I installed the 2008.1 DVD. As first time impressions can be misleading, I usually avoid them, but now I HAVE to say it feels great. Its doccumentation is detailed and indepth. It gives lots and lots of advice to the user.

Debian: The Lenny Diary

This is my set of notes I jotted down while I was playing with Debian Lenny. Not formatted, and often vague, but it will do. I am posting it here to just show how good/bad lenny experience can be to someone.
