Why Corporates are forced to Continue using Windows XP

Windows XP has several flaws. Its 7 years old. Any modern computer would be able to run Windows Vista or Linux anyway. There are cheaper options out there in the market. There are better options too. Its just completely outclassed by today’s standards. Yet its still being used by corporates. And yeah, microsoft recently had to extend its lifetime even more.

The following tries to analyse reasons why corporates still need to use Windows XP while there are several better options available, and it also tries to present reasons why migration and hardware upgrading would be quite difficult.

Extreme Computing with AMD Phenom

AMD has breaking performance charts and five star rating barriers with its new 780G budget chipset and 790FX Spider platform gaming chipset, exclusively made for AMD processors. With godly onboard graphics and its famed Hybrid Graphics mode, the 780G was set to rule. With the possibility that Nehalem may not have nVidia GPU SLi support, 790FX is possibly the only solution for performance seeking gamers, and it too has lived upto the performance seeker’s expectations. But… It has had the sad fate of not having a single AMD processor to match its & series Chipsets’ potential. Its all (hopefully) set to change now with these new AMD Phenom processors…

The Swordsman who fights with a Paper Sword – Me and My PC

Introduction

I think it will be safe for me to get slightly personal in this little post of mine. Here I am going to describe how my life, as a geek and power user, goes on everyday with this computer of mine, which means anything but power. All this because I was never really a geek once, I was just a semi-backward guy who turned geek out of his own actions.

Gautham’s guide to building the Perfect Mainstream Value PC

Many of us are at a loss as to what to buy, when we are hunting for a new PC. To solve some of those problems, I am presenting here a tutorial to build a mainstream, i.e. average level PC, which should fit quite well for most people. I am going to describe here in this tutorial how you can build the perfect Value PC, which has all the features needed by a mainstream PC, and still keeps its price under the hood. Overclocking is an excellent way to get more juice out of your PC, so I shall recommend thee a good overclocker system, i.e. – a PC which can be overclocked to much more power. The machine I am designing will definitely qualify as a mainstream PC, so no eXtreme budget parts.

The PC will be of an Intel based platform, because sadly, AMD is no longer living up to its expectations as far as cheap and good quality processors are concerned. All of its processors, perhaps with the exception of the extremely rare and elusive Athlon 64 X2 5000+ Black Edition are far below similarly priced processors from Intel.

Edit: With Recent release of its 780G platform and new Triple Core Phenoms, AMD is back in business. And it might even be better than Intel for people with a little different needs. But this is still an Intel based Guide, and for AMD based guide, just replace the CPU, Motherboard and GPU with suggestions shown IN THIS POST (click on link to visit). :-)

The PC is intended to be as future proof and upgradable as possible, so that you need not suffer later by having extremely outdated parts. Expansion slots, ability to overclock, usability of some parts later in future, etc are given due importance. I won’t blindly suggest a rig here and you are expected to read the contents fully and only then, make a purchase after deciding what you need and what you don’t.

Important Note: Since I am publishing this now on wordpress.com, this becomes an internationally viewable site. But this post is mainly intended for an Indian audience. So please bear in mind that a small part of what I said here might NOT be applicable to you if you are not in India.

So lets get down to business and do the dirty work shall we ?
